Interview with Mr. Prithvi Raj Singh Oberoi, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of EIH Limited, flagship company of India’s The Oberoi Group and Oberoi Hotels & Resorts was conducted by Nicola Linza and Cristoffer Neljesjö in Delhi, India during October 2012.

The Oberoi Group was founded by your father, how did he influence your life and career ?

My late father was an extremely passionate person. In my early years, he instilled passion and perseverance in me. Throughout my business career I have been passionate and have dedicated my life to the hospitality industry.

How do you work to maintain the quality of your brand ?

It is often said “the devil is in the detail.” It is taking care of all details that differentiates us from others.

Where does aesthetic inspiration come to you when considering a new project ?

I have always been inspired by the cultural heritage of the region where the project is being planned.

How do you define luxury ?

A “luxury” hotel or resort is one which provides superb accommodation, good food and memorable service.

If you had to name one, what would you say is a primary factor when considering the needs of a guest at one of your hotels ?

Courteous and memorable service.

So few today understand as you yourself so clearly do the extreme seriousness, intense dedication and deep passion for quality one must have to maintain a truly high-end brand that people of honest sophistication and wealth respond to with respect. Is this a basis for why you have publically stated you will never sell out or give up control of the Oberoi Group ?

My late father and I have built and nurtured the “Oberoi” Brand. The thought of selling the brand has never crossed my mind !
